What Are The Differences Between Plunger Pumps And Gear Pumps

Both plunger pumps and gear pumps belong to hydraulic pumps and can be used in hydraulic presses and other places. The difference between these two pumps is:
1. Structural differences
The gear pump has a pair of meshing gears inside the pump housing, and the plunger pump is mainly composed of an eccentric wheel, a plunger, a spring, a cylinder body, and a one-way valve.

 

2. Principle difference
Gear pump is a rotary pump that relies on the change and movement of the working volume formed between the pump cylinder and the meshing gear to transport liquid or increase its pressure. A plunger pump is a volumetric pump that relies on the reciprocating motion of the plunger in the cylinder body to change the volume of the sealed working chamber to achieve oil suction and pressure.

 

3. Characteristic differences
Gear pumps have a small volume, simple structure, low requirements for oil cleanliness, and are relatively inexpensive; However, the pump shaft experiences uneven force, severe wear, and significant leakage. Piston pumps have high volumetric efficiency, low leakage, and can work under high pressure, mostly used in high-power hydraulic systems; But the structure is complex, with high requirements for materials and processing accuracy, expensive prices, and high requirements for oil cleanliness.
